About

A bit about me

I was given my first camera when I was 7 and I have taken photos all my life.

When I was at university I carried a camera with me nearly all the time (a Pentax spotmatic F). I took thousands of “lifestyle” photos of my fellow students and this was excellent training for “capturing the decisive moment”. Actually there isn’t one decisive moment – there are many!

After a career in science I returned to photography, and invested heavily in professional training. I saved myself years of trial and error by learning from some of the most respected photographers in the field, and got myself some qualifications (LSWPPLSIFGP).

Although my first love is still “capturing people behaving naturally”, I have also acquired an enviable reputation as a “master of lighting” for portraits and drama.

I love meeting new clients, and I am deliberately eclectic because I love the variety that photography brings into my life.

I am also a volunteer photographer for the charity “Remember My Baby”.

My unique approach

All of my shoots are bespoke, in that they are custom-designed to each client. I pride myself on finding out what my clients actually want to achieve, and then delivering that to the best of my ability.

If you don’t know what you want yet, don’t worry! Most people don’t have a clear idea of what they want at first. My job is help you understand what your options are. This applies both to the style of photography, and the final photographic products you will take home.

The booking fee enables you to claim your pre-shoot consultation. Usually this means coming to my studio, but it can be done via phone or email if this is more convenient. Together we will sit down, perhaps with some coffee, and talk through what you want. We will probably look at some pictures (you can bring some that inspire you).

Then I will plan your photo shoot accordingly. Pre-shoot consultations are not obligatory, but I strongly recommend you take advantage of this service. This enables me to plan your photo shoot just for you.

How long will your photo shoot last?

I rarely do more than one photo shoot in a day, and I allow plenty of time. The amount of time needed depends on the complexity of the shoot, where it is located, and what we wish to achieve.

For example if you are very busy and only want some business headshots, you can probably be in and out of my studio in 30-40 minutes (providing we have discussed what you need before you arrive so I can set up my studio accordingly).

On the other hand if you want a “special experience” photo shoot, complete with the services of a professional make up artist and hair stylist, then you will be in my studio for several hours. “Model experience” and “fantasy” photo shoots are particularly suited to clients who want to enjoy a special and unique experience.

Or if you are full of self confidence and want to go the whole hog with a body painting photo shoot… then allow a whole working day (4 hours for the body painting alone!)

If you are worried about time, give me a ring. I should be able to give you some idea of how long a photo shoot will take when you tell me what you need.
